Quickly Integrating SAP into Energinet’s Data Warehouse

Energinet.dk is an independent public enterprise with responsibility for energy supply and distribution throughout Denmark. Energinet manages the exchanges and auctions where production companies bid to supply electricity and gas.

Energinet predict energy requirements for each day, hour-by-hour. Accuracy is crucial as Energinet is financially responsible for any underestimates or overestimates.

Energinet relied on their data warehouse to combine transactional data, weather data, and market data. However, Energinet’s previous ERP systems were being replaced by SAP. 

Systems Must Change, and Change Fast

Energinet decided to feed SAP data into their existing data warehouse, but they knew they would have to use SAP’s own programing language and find the right data among 28,000 tables.

Nicolaj Norgaard Petersen, head of data warehousing at Energinet.dk, estimated 100 weeks of work. Energinet could not wait. Mr. Petersen needed to find a smarter solution.

He found NemisFS by NewFrontiers, the BI specialists for ERP customers. NemisFS provides all the data models, mappings and routines to pull ERP data into a data warehouse.

Mr. Petersen selected the first three modules: accounts receivable, accounts payable and financial accounting.
